JOHN MAGNAN STUDIO
Other Work
These are selected examples of work I created for display in regional art exhibitions or for my personal enjoyment.

Bookends
Created as an homage to the forms pioneered by Constantin Brancusi, these are carved from solid walnut and rest on bed of cut off dressmaker pins.
Colonize 1600
Recognizing the destruction of the Native American culture wrought by the European colonization of North America.

Colonize 2022
Using the form of the META logo carved in oak, this work points to the North-South exploitation underway as digital technology makes its inroads into developing societies.

The Brown Paper Bag Test
Carved from white oak, this life-sized replica is a reminder that there were times in this country when admittance into public meetings required proof that one's skin was a lighter tone than the color of a paper bag.
Our Missing Hearts
Cast in soap, this ovoid form is entrapped in a steel cage. It is reminder that to this day many children are abducted, sold, and never reunited with their families.

(Un)entitled
We are all pawns in a world controlled by the plutocrats. We aren't entitled to anything of our own choosing. Do our votes really matter?
Dart Russett
Carved from walnut and maple, this life-sized potato chip bag and bowl holds 100 "chips."

Artemis
Carved from a single walnut log and place on a walnut pedestal.
