Elm Ribbon

When a huge elm tree was killed by Dutch Elm disease, the owner brought me a slab cut from the very base of the trunk (bottom right). I cut away the inside wood until there was only a 1/2 inch ribbon left. I reinforced the now-fragile form with a stiff frame of purple heart wood to finish the wall hanging, which spans about 6 feet in width.
