Tea Set

2011

A year-and-a-half ago I made a wood teapot that is triple real life size. For some reason the tea theme is still with me, so I made the cup, saucer, sugar bowl and creamer that might have gone with it. I don't know what this is about, exactly. There is something about the ritual of taking tea that appeals even to this coffee drinker. There's something basic, maybe primal, in the routine of boiling water and steeping plant leaves that reaches deep and must be acknowledged and celebrated.

Off I went to a local antique market and selected the pieces, shown with the finised wood set, to be used as models for the sculpture. I added the spoon. It needed a spoon.
